A Distinguished Naval Career

An alumnus of the 71st course of the National Defence Academy, Pune, Vice Admiral Vatsayan was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 January 1988. A specialist in Gunnery and Missile Systems, his career spans more than three decades of exemplary service.

Sea Commands & Operational Achievements

  • Commissioning crew of the Guided Missile Destroyer INS Mysore and INS Nishank.
  • Pre-commissioning crew of Coast Guard OPV ICGS Sangram.
  • Commanded several frontline warships, including INS Vibhuti, INS Nashak, INS Kuthar, and INS Sahyadri (as commissioning CO).
  • Served as Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet in Feb 2020, leading crucial deployments post-Galwan.

  • Naval War College, Goa
  • National Defence College, New Delhi

He has held key roles including Director of Personnel (Policy), Director of Naval Plans, and Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy and Plans).
