The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, graced the National Students’ Convocation of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) held in New Delhi on June 23, 2025.
Addressing the gathering, the President highlighted the historical significance of accountants in Indian society, noting their close association with the values of accountability and trust. She praised the Institute of Cost Accountants of India, founded in 1944, for playing a vital role in India’s economic development journey.
The President acknowledged the ICMAI’s significant contribution in assisting policymakers, governments, and organizations with cost-efficient strategies and systems. She noted the evolution of cost accountants from traditional roles in factories to influential positions in corporate boardrooms.
Underscoring the urgency of climate change, the President stressed that sustainability has become a necessity, not a slogan. She urged cost accountants to integrate environmental costs into business strategies and highlighted their potential to make a positive impact on the planet’s future.
She also advised students to view their roles beyond financial accounting and contribute to building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047. Expressing confidence in ICMAI’s education system, she emphasized that its graduates are well-equipped to become both successful professionals and nation-builders.
