Chile’s CODELCO Team Begins Landmark Visit to Hindustan Copper Units in India

Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) extended a warm welcome to a high-level delegation from CODELCO—Chile’s state-owned copper mining giant—in New Delhi. This visit marks a historic milestone, being the first-of-its-kind mining collaboration mission between the two countries.

Over the next three weeks, the delegation will visit all HCL units and offices across India. Their agenda includes evaluating mining operations, exploring innovation, and identifying areas for strategic value addition through knowledge sharing.

The Chilean team comprises experts in various domains:

  • Angelo Giovanni Giuseppe Aguilar Catalano – Geology & Exploration
  • Jose Ramom Abatte Perez – Innovation & Technology
  • Carlos Abelardo Vilches Donoso – Tailing Management
  • Jorge Luis Espindola Landa – Geotechnical Engineering
  • Sergio Jonathan Pichott Heriquez – Geometallurgy

This exchange follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on April 1, 2025, in the presence of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the President of Chile, Mr. Gabriel Boric Font. The MoU aims to deepen cooperation in exploration, mining, mineral beneficiation, and training.

The MoU was formally signed by Mr. Sanjiv Kumar Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of HCL, and Mr. Ruben Alvarado Vigar, CEO of CODELCO.
