Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan Reviews Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, Focuses on Crop-Specific Strategy

Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, chaired a high-level review meeting on the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ at ICAR Pusa Campus, New Delhi. The session reviewed campaign activities conducted from May 29 to June 12, and framed the strategic roadmap for the Rabi season.

Over 2,170 nodal officers participated, both in-person and virtually, sharing data-driven findings and on-ground insights. Shri Chouhan called the campaign a transformative milestone that connected agricultural scientists with over 60,000 villages under the Prime Minister’s ‘Lab to Land’ mission.

The Minister outlined a renewed focus on income enhancement, food security, mechanization, biofortified crops, soil health, and coastal agriculture. He stressed that sustainable solutions must originate from grassroots realities.

A major announcement included the proposal for a targeted ‘Crop War’ on pulses, oilseeds, soybean, cotton, and sugarcane. Crop- and state-specific planning would be prioritized, along with strict regulation against substandard inputs and better compliance enforcement.

Shri Chouhan called for strengthening Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and deploying nodal officers for deeper field engagement. A two-day national conference will be organized — the first day with officials and the second with agriculture ministers — to finalize the upcoming Rabi action plan.

The Abhiyan also aims to improve research-extension coordination, build inter-institutional learning among ICAR units, and promote strong ties with state agricultural departments.

Key attendees included Shri Shyam Singh Rana (Agriculture Minister, Haryana), Shri Devesh Chaturvedi (Secretary, MoA&FW), Dr. M.L. Jat (Secretary DARE & DG ICAR), Dr. Rajbir Singh (ICAR Deputy DG – Agri Extension), Dr. D.K. Yadava (ICAR Deputy DG – Crop Science), and senior scientists, officials, and vice-chancellors.

The review underlined the government’s commitment to making India a global food basket through innovation, inclusion, and strategic reforms in agriculture.
