PM Modi Addresses Centenary of Sree Narayana Guru–Gandhi Meeting, Emphasizes Inclusive Development

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the centenary celebration of the historic conversation between Sree Narayana Guru and Mahatma Gandhi, a milestone event that deeply influenced India’s freedom struggle and social reform movement.

Speaking at the Shivagiri Math, the PM paid tribute to both Sree Narayana Guru and Gandhiji, describing their meeting 100 years ago as a symbol of India’s enduring spirit of unity, service, and social upliftment. He lauded Sree Narayana Guru as a beacon for harmony, truth, and equality, whose teachings continue to inspire India’s development journey today.

PM Modi recalled how the Guru’s fight against oppression and inequality shaped his own approach toward policy and governance. He emphasized the impact of programs such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, and JanMan Yojana in improving lives in tribal and deprived regions.

Drawing parallels between the teachings of Sree Narayana Guru and the government’s work, he highlighted India’s efforts in women-led development, spiritual and social harmony, and educational reform. He also noted how campaigns like the Swachh Bharat Mission and PM Vishwakarma reflect the spirit of public participation and dignity of labor.

The Prime Minister praised the Guru’s vision of “enlightenment through education, strength through organization, and prosperity through industry,” adding that this philosophy is reflected in India’s New Education Policy and institutions like IITs, IIMs, and Eklavya schools across tribal belts.

Touching on India’s growing global stature, he cited achievements in counter-terrorism, self-reliance in defense, and India’s rise as a major economy. He said India’s Operation Sindoor showed the effectiveness of Indian-made weapons and sent a strong message to the world about India’s stance on terrorism.

Concluding his address, PM Modi reaffirmed the government’s efforts to preserve the legacy of Sree Narayana Guru, including the development of the Shivagiri Circuit, and said the Guru’s teachings will continue to guide India on its path to becoming a developed nation by 2047.
