The Government of India launched the transformative initiative ‘Navya’ in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, to empower adolescent girls through vocational training and holistic development. This initiative is jointly led by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
‘Navya’ targets girls aged 16 to 18 and is currently being piloted in 9 aspirational districts across 9 states. Eventually, it will be implemented in 27 districts across 19 states to provide equitable opportunities to girls from underserved communities.
Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge), Shri Jayant Chaudhary, and Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Smt. Savitri Thakur, inaugurated the initiative, emphasizing that ‘Navya’ will create confident, self-reliant citizens.
Under PMKVY 4.0, training will be provided in non-traditional and emerging fields such as:
- Graphic Designing
- Smartphone and Drone Assembly
- CCTV Installation
- Professional Makeup Artistry
To complement skill development, a 7-hour supplementary training module has been created covering:
- Interpersonal Skills: Hygiene, conflict management, self-presentation
- Communication Skills: Active listening and effective interaction
- Workplace Safety: Understanding POSH and POCSO laws
- Financial Literacy: Budgeting and income planning
During the event, officials highlighted the importance of linking trained girls with local job fairs and entrepreneurship programs. The government also recognized graduates of PMKVY and PM Vishwakarma with certificates.
Several dignitaries including MPs, MLAs, senior bureaucrats, and officials from both ministries were present to support the mission. The initiative reinforces India’s dedication to inclusive growth, gender equality, and building a skilled workforce for the future.
