First Batch of Apache AH‑64E Helicopters Arrive for Indian Army

Indian Army Welcomes First Apache AH‑64E Helicopters

The Indian Army received its first batch of three Apache AH‑64E attack helicopters on July 22. These helicopters landed today at Hindon Air Force Station and are slated for deployment near Jodhpur.

Strategic “Tanks in the Air”

Referred to as “tanks in the air,” the AH‑64E Apache is a world-class attack helicopter outfitted with a 30 mm chain gun, Hellfire missiles, rocket pods, and Longbow radar system. Equipped for precision strikes and reconnaissance, it enhances India’s capability in all-weather and nighttime operations.

Accelerating Combat Readiness

These helicopters were procured under a ₹5,691 crore contract in 2020. Their induction will strengthen the army’s combat posture along the western border, responding to shifting operational priorities.

Army Aviation’s “Milestone Moment”

The arrival marks a significant milestone for Army Aviation. ADGPI described it as a “milestone moment,” emphasizing the enhancement to the Army’s aerial strike abilities.

Next Steps for Deployment

The helicopters will undergo final assembly and joint inspections at Hindon before formally joining the 451 Army Aviation Squadron. Once deployed in Jodhpur, they will be fully operational for strategic missions and close support roles.
