Government Extends Unified Pension Scheme Option Deadline to 30 September 2025
The Ministry of Finance has extended the cut-off date for exercising the option under the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for eligible Central Government employees, past retirees, and the legally wedded spouses of deceased retirees.
Originally, the deadline was set for 30 June 2025. However, due to multiple representations and requests from various stakeholders, the Government of India has now decided to extend this deadline by three more months—up to 30 September 2025.
The UPS framework was notified via Notification No. F. No. FX-1/3/2024-PR dated 24 January 2025. To implement this scheme effectively, the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) issued the associated regulations on 19 March 2025, laying down the rules for operationalisation under the National Pension System (NPS).
This extension will benefit all eligible stakeholders, giving them ample time to make an informed decision about transitioning under the new pension framework.
