President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, delivered the keynote address at the first convocation ceremony of AIIMS Gorakhpur on June 30, 2025. Speaking at the event, the President described AIIMS institutions as benchmarks of India’s progress in medical science and care.
“Whenever we hear the name AIIMS, we think of top-tier treatment, modern medical technologies, and dedicated doctors,” she said, adding that AIIMS has become a symbol of hope for patients across the country.
Praising AIIMS Gorakhpur for its rapid development in education, research, and healthcare, the President noted that the institution has already earned a strong reputation, especially among residents in eastern Uttar Pradesh, and even in neighboring regions of Bihar and Nepal. She lauded its efforts in offering accessible and affordable healthcare to people from all backgrounds.
In her speech, President Murmu emphasized the vital role of doctors in nation-building. “You don’t just cure illnesses—you shape a healthier society,” she said, encouraging the graduating doctors to serve rural and tribal communities that often lack quality medical services.
The President urged young medical professionals to carry forward their careers with a sense of service, compassion, and empathy. She highlighted the importance of communication between doctors and patients, as well as the emotional intelligence needed to build trust and provide comfort during treatment.
“Medicine is not just a profession; it is a service to humanity,” she reminded them, calling on the new graduates to make compassion and honesty guiding principles in both their work and personal lives.
The convocation marks a milestone in AIIMS Gorakhpur’s journey as a premier medical institution, and the President’s presence added a strong message of purpose, service, and responsibility to the next generation of healthcare providers.
