In a historic move, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched the ‘Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan’ (DAJA), the largest tribal empowerment campaign ever undertaken in independent India. Spanning over 1 lakh villages across 31 States and Union Territories, the campaign aims to saturate government welfare schemes in tribal regions through direct outreach.
Within the first nine days, over 22,000 Tribal Empowerment Camps have already reached 53 lakh+ citizens. These camps facilitated services including Aadhaar enrolments (1.38 lakh+), Ayushman Bharat cards (1.68 lakh+), PM-Kisan registrations (46,000+), PM Ujjwala Yojana (22,000+ beneficiaries), and 32,000+ new PM Jan Dhan accounts.
Running from June 15 to July 15, 2025, DAJA is a key component of the government’s ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh’ and honors tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The campaign reflects PM Modi’s vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.
Union Minister Shri Jual Oram called DAJA “a mass movement for equity and dignity,” while MoS Shri Durga Das Uikey praised the growing involvement of tribal youth and women. Secretary Shri Vibhu Nayar added that real-time dashboards and cultural revival are setting new governance benchmarks.
Key highlights from across India include:
- Ladakh: FM Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman promoted millet-based tribal nutrition in Rongo.
- Madhya Pradesh: Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel launched DAJA in Sehore.
- Assam: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma called it a new era in tribal development.
- Maharashtra: CM Devendra Fadnavis emphasized tribal entrepreneurship.
- Kerala: A conclave in Wayanad enabled district-level planning.
DAJA is built on five pillars: Janbhagidari, Saturation, Cultural Inclusion, Convergence, and Last-Mile Delivery. The campaign brings together ministries, CSOs, youth groups, and tribal students, supported by cultural programs and tribal knowledge documentation.
