Amit Shah to Launch #LongLiveDemocracy Yatra on Samvidhan Hatya Diwas

On 25th June 2025, the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Government of Delhi, will commemorate Samvidhan Hatya Diwas at Thyagaraj Stadium, New Delhi. The event marks 50 years since the Emergency was imposed in 1975, a pivotal moment in India’s democratic history.

The Chief Guest, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, will flag off the “#LongLiveDemocracy Yatra” by MYBharat volunteers. This national awareness campaign will travel across the country to promote democratic values, constitutional awareness, and public reflection on the Emergency era.

Also in attendance will be Union Ministers Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw and Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Delhi Lt. Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, and Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta.

The Delhi event will feature:

  • Special exhibition divided into: Bharat – Mother of Democracy, Dark Days of Democracy, and Strengthening Democracy in India
  • NSD Theatrical Play dramatizing the Emergency
  • Short film screening on the Emergency period
  • Interactive Signature Tribute Wall for citizens

In parallel, States and UTs across India will host similar commemorative programmes to honor those who defended democracy during the Emergency. Exhibitions, dialogues, and film screenings will facilitate intergenerational understanding of democratic values.

The Ministry will also launch “Long Live Democracy” exhibitions in 50 key locations in each State and UT, keeping them open to the public in the coming weeks.

June 25 was officially notified as Samvidhan Hatya Diwas in 2024, as a solemn reaffirmation of India’s commitment to constitutional values and democratic institutions.
