Terminal 2 Becomes a Canvas of Gujarat’s Culture
At Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad, Terminal 2 now features a set of thematic art installations designed to immerse travellers in the heritage of Gujarat. The airport management says these artworks reflect the state’s freedom movement, its vibrant festivals, and traditions rooted in hope and progress.
Conversations of Freedom: Honouring Gujarat’s Icons
Located in the Departures check-in hall, Conversations of Freedom centres around Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel. The piece is a 350-metre-long mural made of metallic sheets, with jaali-style illustration work. It also incorporates three-dimensional brass and copper sculptures, alongside symbolic depictions of Gujarat’s iconic landscapes and landmarks.

Utsav Wall – Navratri & Uttarayan: Festivals in Art
In the Baggage Claim Hall (Arrivals), the Utsav Wall celebrates Gujarat’s festive spirit. Through modular sheet blocks and patterned brass strips, the artwork brings to life the exuberance of Garba dancers and the flight of kites during Uttarayan, creating a joyful welcome for those arriving.
Pragati-ni-Patang: Aspirations in Flight
In the Domestic Arrival area, the Pragati-ni-Patang installation draws from the tradition of kite-flying. Life-size bronze sculptures of children, paired with internally lit acrylic kites supported by hidden stainless steel frames, capture the energy and aspirations of future generations.

Blending Heritage with Passenger Experience
- Each installation merges traditional Gujarat artwork—like jaali patterns, brass and copper craft—with modern sculptural techniques.
- The placement in arrival, departure and baggage areas ensures travellers engage with the culture whether they’re coming or going.
- Visual impact is high: the use of metallic surfaces, three-dimensional sculptures, and illuminated elements gives depth and vibrancy in busy terminal spaces.
