New Route via Kolkata Expected from October
Rajkot’s Hirasar International Airport is set to begin flights to **Ganzhou, China**, via Kolkata from October 2025. The service is likely to be run by IndiGo Airlines, operating **four days a week**.
Customs & Immigration Arrangements
The airport’s customs facilities are already in place at Hirasar. However, immigration formalities will be handled in Kolkata. The Rajkot–Kolkata leg will be treated as a domestic flight, and from Kolkata, the aircraft will continue onto the international segment to China.
Who Benefits from the New Service
- Industrialists from the Saurashtra region travelling to China for trade will have a shorter, more direct route.
- Students pursuing medical and other education in China will gain improved accessibility.
Other Flight Proposals & Existing Connectivity
Besides the China route, IndiGo has proposed to resume flights to **Indore** and **Udaipur** before Diwali, and to add a morning flight to **Delhi**. Currently, Rajkot is connected domestically to Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
Airport Infrastructure & Challenges
Rajkot’s Hirasar Airport, Gujarat’s first greenfield airport, was inaugurated in July 2023. It had not yet begun direct international flights due to infrastructure or operational limitations, including immigration facilities.
What to Watch For
Ticket schedules, exact days of operation, and formal approvals are expected to be announced soon. Passenger amenities, seamless transfers from domestic to international segments, and regulatory formalities will be critical for success.
