Gujarat CM Inaugurates Matru Shri Hiraba Sarovar at Siddhpur to Mark PM Modi’s 75th Birthday

New Lake Inaugurated at Matrugaya Tirth, Siddhpur

On September 17, 2025, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the newly constructed Matrushree Hiraba Sarovar at Matrugaya Tirth, Siddhpur (Patan district) in Gujarat. The inauguration coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday and is a tribute to his mother, Hiraba.

Purpose & Capacity

The sarovar (lake) is part of the Lokmata Saraswati River revival project under the State’s Narmada, Water Resources, Water Supply & Kalpasar Department. It has been built in collaboration with the Dholakia Foundation’s Phuliba Trust.

The structure can store over “45 million cubic feet of water”, benefiting approximately “150 hectares” of farmland. It also aims to raise groundwater levels in more than 20 nearby recharge wells.

Benefits for Local Area & Environment

  • The lake will help prevent waterlogging in low-lying areas near the Madhupavdiya Check Dam.
  • Irrigation benefits will reach local farmlands, providing water stability for agriculture across roughly 150 hectares.
  • Groundwater recharge is a key feature: more than 20 wells nearby are expected to see the water table rise.

Ceremony and Dignitaries

The ceremony was attended by Siddhpur MLA & Industries Minister Balvantsinh Rajput, Water Resources Minister Kunwarjibhai Bavaliya, and others. CM Patel dedicated the sarovar as a tribute to PM Modi’s mother, emphasising the values she instilled—perseverance and public service.

Vision & Wider Implications

CM Patel linked the project to PM Modi’s long-standing commitment to water conservation, urging citizens to participate in programs like “Catch the Rain” and to promote local products under the Vocal for Local campaign.

This lake is expected to serve as a model for sustainable water management in North Gujarat, contributing to both agricultural resilience and environmental sustainability.
