IDY 2025 Marks Global Milestone: 13 Lakh Events & Guinness Records for Yoga

Yoga’s Global Impact Celebrated in 2025

The 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY 2025) on June 21 saw a historic scale of participation across the globe. Led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision, IDY continues to unite the world through wellness and spiritual harmony.

Unprecedented Participation

  • 13.04 lakh yoga events registered across India.
  • Approximately 2,000 global events held in 191 countries.
  • Celebrations featured at 1,300+ locations outside India.

Guinness World Records in Visakhapatnam

India achieved two world records:

  • Largest yoga session at a single venue – 3.02 lakh participants (June 21)
  • Largest mass Surya Namaskar – 22,122 tribal students (June 20)

Iconic Events Across India’s Diverse Landscape

15 landmark yoga events were held at culturally significant and extreme locations, such as:

  • Siachen Glacier – World’s highest battlefield with Indian Army yoga
  • Galwan Valley, Rohtang Pass, Pangong Lake, Sela Tunnel – Yoga by BRO and ITBP
  • Chenab Rail Bridge – Yoga atop the world’s highest railway bridge
  • Indira Point – Southernmost tip, celebrated by A&N Command
  • Mumbai Offshore Oil Rig – Yoga amidst the Arabian Sea
  • New Pamban Bridge – Railway staff and students’ participation

Celebrations at Spiritual & Natural Heritage Sites

  • NaMo Ghat, Varanasi – NCC battalion sessions on Ganga banks
  • Kishangarh Fort, Rajasthan – BSF-hosted event in desert fort
  • Pahalgam & Sonmarg, J&K – Yoga in scenic meadows
  • Kailash Manasarovar route – Yoga by Indian pilgrims in Bainang County, Tibet

Geological Sites Celebrated India’s Ancient Connection

In collaboration with Geological Survey of India (GSI), yoga was performed at 12 geological heritage sites, including:

  • Rahioli Dinosaur Fossil Park (Gujarat)
  • Bhimbetka Rock Shelters (MP)
  • Nighoj Potholes (Maharashtra)
  • Arwah-Lumshynna Cave (Meghalaya)
  • Peninsular Gneiss at Lalbagh (Karnataka)

A Unified Celebration of Spirit and Science

From borderlands to oil rigs and tribal schools to world heritage sites, IDY 2025 reflected the message of “Yoga for All, Yoga Everywhere”. The Ministry of Ayush thanked ministries, Armed Forces, yoga institutions, global partners, and 13 lakh+ Indian participants for making this a historic global celebration.
