On the occasion of National Doctors’ Day (July 1), the Gujarat government highlighted the success of the Mukhyamantri Kanya Kelavani Nidhi Yojana (MKKN), which provides financial assistance to girls pursuing MBBS education. The scheme, implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, aims to ensure that economic barriers do not prevent daughters from realizing their dreams of becoming doctors.
Since its inception in 2017-18, the MKKN scheme has supported 25,768 girl students with a total of ₹772 crore in aid. In FY 2024-25 alone, ₹162.69 crore was disbursed to 5,155 medical students from families earning up to ₹6 lakh annually.
Under this scheme, 50% of the admission fee is sponsored by the state government for students who qualify for MBBS programs through NEET. Notably, this support is provided irrespective of caste or community background.
One shining example is Dr. Pratibhaben Chauhan of Jamnagar, who recently completed her MBBS from Narendra Modi Medical College, Ahmedabad. She shared how the MKKN scheme enabled her to afford private college fees and pursue her dream. She received financial aid worth ₹25.48 lakh during her course and is now preparing for postgraduate studies.
Thousands of talented daughters across Gujarat are now wearing white coats and contributing to the health sector—all thanks to this forward-thinking initiative.
CM Patel reaffirmed that under PM Narendra Modi’s vision of women-led development, Gujarat will continue taking inclusive steps to uplift girls through education, opportunity, and empowerment.
