As part of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, the Gujarat government has launched a significant initiative to uplift cooperative efforts in the state. With the support of the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, the first-ever cold-processed groundnut oil processing unit has been inaugurated at the Khambhaliya Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC), located in Devbhumi Dwarka district. This innovative project, established at a cost exceeding ₹1 crore, is now fully operational and receiving positive feedback from the public for delivering 100% pure “Nirmal” brand groundnut oil.
This initiative is a milestone in ensuring that citizens have access to high-quality edible oils while simultaneously supporting local farmers. The processing unit was made possible through persistent efforts of APMC officials and staff, who worked tirelessly to make this venture a reality. Since its launch, the unit has witnessed a consistent rise in consumer usage, reflecting both public trust and increased production output.
Under the visionary guidance of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel and leadership of Cooperative Minister Shri Jagdish Vishwakarma, this effort reflects the government’s commitment to empower agricultural marketing committees across Gujarat. These APMCs were formed to facilitate fair trade of farm produce, and with this latest intervention, the Khambhaliya APMC has taken a unique step forward in offering pure, unadulterated groundnut oil directly to citizens.
The Gujarat government has also implemented several schemes to promote development of such processing units. Notably, under the “Processing Unit Scheme,” 50% of the total cost of establishing such facilities is subsidized by the state government through the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation, and Farmers Welfare. This ensures affordability and widespread adoption among other APMCs across the state.
Importantly, the oil is made using G-20 grade groundnuts native to Devbhumi Dwarka region. Before processing, the groundnuts go through an advanced cleaning process involving graders, de-stoners, and round grading machines. This removes impurities like stones, dust, broken kernels, and harmful chemical traces. Once purified, the groundnuts undergo cold processing without the use of any chemicals. To maintain optimal quality, the oil is filtered again post-processing, ensuring controlled levels of FFA and PV — indicators of oil quality and freshness. The end result is a premium, almost organic oil that is safe and healthy for consumption.
This development is not only a triumph for cooperative infrastructure but also a meaningful step toward healthier dietary options and sustainable agricultural practices in Gujarat.
